About The Company

PensionPlus is a retirement income solution that helps retirees turn savings into a steady paycheck while staying in control of their assets. As a B2B2C company, it partners with financial institutions and employers to offer this service, benefiting both businesses and their customers.

My Role

At PensionPlus, I tackled three key priorities: establishing a strong brand style, streamlining the onboarding tool’s information architecture for user groups, and leading diverse design efforts—from emails and presentations to prototypes and beyond.

Pension Plus Video

To enhance Pension Plus’s user experience, we needed a compelling video to showcase its features and benefits at key touchpoints—on the website and at the start of the tool’s flow. Instead of a basic dry-erase animation, I aimed for a polished, high-quality presentation. I took the lead in sourcing, managing, and art directing an external animation studio to bring this vision to life.

Information Architecture

The Initial Flow

When I started, an initial onboarding flow was in progress. I completed it to gain a full understanding of the tool. Here’s a look at the linear information architecture as it stood when I joined.

My Updated Flow

After analyzing the initial flow, the team and I refined it to better serve two key personas: pre-retirees and post-retirees. This required a fork in the flow towards the beginning.

Landing Page

At the start of the experience, users discover the features and benefits of the Pension Plus Tradeoff Engine. A video is placed here to engage users who prefer visual content.

Part One: Information Collection

After the landing page, users input key information at the start of the onboarding flow to activate the tool. Below are my designs for this experience.

Interstitial Screens

At the midpoint of onboarding experience, we shift gears from gathering information to asking the user to make their tradeoffs. Here the user is informed that they will help create their retirement paycheck.

Intro to paycheck creation

Users are informed that as they make their choices, Pension Plus’ tool will model, adjust, and calculate a lifelong paycheck.

What’s in my Paycheck?

This screen breaks down the composition of upcoming checks. We also inform users that they are able to change their choices in the dashboard.

After the interstitial, users begin to interact with the tradeoff engine.

Member Portal

Once a user has completed the onboarding, they are taken to the member portal where they are able to view their retirement income, income sources, and edit their plan.

Not Retired Portal

This version is designed for users nearing retirement, displaying their estimated monthly check, updates, and a retirement countdown.

Retiree Portal

This portal version is tailored for retired users, showcasing their monthly check amount, updates, and annual bonus status.
